            Laskar Pelangi tells the story of children from Belitung Village who are categorized as poor children in Belitung. These children do not stop trying to improve their future. They are students of SD Muhammadiyah, the oldest elementary school in Belitung village. There are 10 students in this school, so they cannot be separated from the threat of closure. The nine students are Ikal, Lintang, Mahar, A Kiong, Syahdan, Borek, Sahara, Kucai, Trepani, and Harun. Ibu Muslimah, the only teacher at SD Muhammadiyah, played by Cut Mini, and Pak Harfan, the principal at SD Muhammadiyah, played by Ikranagara, continue to strive to keep SD Muhammadiyah from closing. Initially there were only 9 students at SD Muhammadiyah, then Harun came, mentally retarded child who saved the school when all the students and teachers were nervous and worried that the school would be closed. After the students have reached 10 students, the school with the improvised building is still allowed to carry out activities like schools in general. The main character in the film Laskar Pelangi is Ikal. Muhammadiyah Elementary School students who have a great interest in the world of literature. He likes to write poetry. There is also Lintang, a Muhammadiyah elementary school student who is the smartest student in school because of his genius. He is the son of a poor fisherman who dreams of becoming a mathematician. There is one student who is known to have talent in the arts, namely Mahar. He was the one who came up with the idea when the school planned to take part in a carnival-like competition. Mahar gave the idea to dance with accessories made from rare plants in Belitung. The plants made itchy, so they danced like crazy people, but the idea made SD Muhammadiyah win the competition. The days that go by are increasingly carving memories, happiness, and full of laughter. Even so, Lintang still struggles in education. He was willing to travel a very long distance to get to school by bicycle. Lintang's struggle to get to school had to go through a lake with a crocodile in it. Lintang's intelligence was proven when he, Ikal, and Sahara took part in a quiz competition. The three students were able to beat Drs. Zulfikar, an elementary school teacher from the PN which is an elite school in Belitung.

Film making

The Laskar Pelangi film was produced by Miles Films, Mizan Productions, and SinemArt with a location on Belitung Island, one of the beautiful islands on the western side of Indonesia. The making of the film, which is based on the novel Laskar Pelangi, held a casting for the cast of children from Belitung as actors from Muhammadiyah elementary school students. The Laskar Pelangi film uses two languages, namely Indonesian and Malay as the everyday language on Belitung Island. The Muhammadiyah Elementary School building which is the setting in this film is a replica of the Muhammadiyah Elementary School where the writer of the novel Laskar Pelangi, Andrea Hirata, studied.

Very Inspirational Movie

As a film that tells a story about education, Laskar Pelangi does not only present a portrait of education in the village, but also a story of friendship that is very close and rich in meaning. The atmosphere of joy and sadness was felt, when Lintang won the quiz competition, but at the same time he decided to quit school. There are many conflicts that occur in this film. It starts when the school registration period for students who register does not meet the minimum limit set by the Ministry of Education and Culture of South Sumatra. So, if there are less than 10 students who register, the school is forced to close. The day of registration arrived, the number of registered students was only nine people. In the midst of anxiety, finally Mr. Harfan as the principal and Mrs. Muslimah as the teacher, decided to cancel the admission of new students. When he was about to start his speech, a mother came with her son, Harun, to register as a student at SD Muhammadiyah. The day passed and went on with school activities in general. Then it was time for SD Muhammadiyah to join the carnival. Although she was questioned because she did not have the funds, Mrs. Muslimah insisted on involving her students. With Mahar's artistic and genius soul, they managed to get the victory trophy. The conflict that brought the emotions of the audience the most was when the quiz race was over. Where originally SD Muhammadiyah was left behind when it was against SD PN and SD Negeri. When it comes to math, they can catch up with the scores they left behind and win the quiz competition. At that time, I, as a spectator, felt happy for the victory that SD Muhammadiyah had won. After winning the quiz, Lintang decided not to continue his education because his father died and he had to become the breadwinner of the family. Instantly the happiness they just got turned into a very deep sadness. When I watched it, I felt sad when a student as genius as Lintang was forced to drop out of school.

Advantages    : In my opinion Laskar Pelangi is a film that really teaches persistence in achieving goals, simplicity, and friendship. The storyline taken by the producer is not complicated and easy to understand. There are many funny scenes, such as Ikal and A ling falling in love because Ikal likes to buy chalk at the shop owned by A ling's family.

Deficiency      : I don't think there are any drawbacks

1.     The Laskar Pelangi novel has an educational theme.

2.     Characterizations                   

·       Ikal: students who are students after Latitude.

·       Taprani: polite, neat, respectful to parents.

·       Sahara: skeptical.

·       Akiong: plain.

·       Mahar: has talent in the arts.

·       Bu Muslimah : patient and persistent.

·       Lintang: the most genius student.

·       Kucai: has the mandate as class president.

·       Syahdan: Ikal's friend bought chalk.

·       Harun: polite, quiet, and smiling.

3.     Background scene      : in Hang Village, Hanging District, East Belitong, South Sumatra.

4.     Plot                              : introduction of story situations, conflict, climax, resolution.

5.     Viewpoint                   : first person main actor.

6.     Mandate                      : Optimistic in everything and does not give up easily.
